I can see that the inclusion of these particular model clauses, as drafted in contracts for employment in the UK, could be a source of confusion and frustration. I shall be consulting the Governor of Hong Kong about the possibility of inserting alterna- tive versions of the model clauses concerned in contracts for employment, in countries where the local authorities are not willing or able to co-operate. I understand that a clause of this kind, formerly Cleuse 19, has already been removed from the most recent revision of the model contract for this reason.
