Thin Unit which in styled the Folice Public Information Burewa came into operation on 11th March, 1969. The Commissioner's recommendations that the nit should be directed by a Police Officer (of 2.5.P. rynk) and jointly staffed by Police officers and seconded information officers from the Government Information Services were adopted.

The Unit is thus considerably larger than you envisaged hut it was felt that the present goodwill between the Public ad the Tolice, brought about by last year's disturbances, should be fostered and encouraged and a Unit of the present izend composition was desirable. During its first few months of operation the results have been wholely satisfactory.
