The first case, again the Afternoon News, began on 21st August and was completed on 29th August. WU Tai-chau, CHAK Nuen-fai and

LI Sui-hung were arraigned on three charges of sedition, two of attempting to cause disaffection among the police and one of publishing false news. They were all found guilty. The second, against the

H. K. Evening News, ended on 4th September. The same three accused were found guilty on three charges of sedition, two of attempting to cause disaffection and one of publishing false news. The final trial,

concerned the Tin Fung Yat Pao, ended on 7th September with CHAN Yim-kuen, POON Wai-wai, CHAK Nuen-fai and LI Siu-hung being found guilty on seven counts of sedition, two of inciting disaffection and one of publishing false news.

The accused at all three trials were each sentenced to a total of three years imprisonment and this is the effective leng th of their sentences since periods in excess were ordered to run concurrently with sentences previously inflicted. In addition the Afternoon News was fined $12,000, all three papers were suppressed for six months and the Nam Cheung Printing Co. was fined a total of $42,000.
