New Evening Post (June 4, 1967):
Everything has been made clear, unequi- vocally and categorically. We have made it clear to our Chinese compatriots, and also to our opponents, the British imperialists and the British authorities in Hongkong. Things are just like this: a revolution is being carried out in Hongkong. The imperialists will be brought to account and will be smashed. They will not be allowed to ride roughshod over our Chinese compatriots in Hongkong and Kow- loon as they have done in the past 100 years
or so.

Patriotic Chincse in Hongkong will never succumb to the enemy. They have the support of the 700 million compatriots in the mainland, and they have the courage and con- fidence to win victory in this struggle.

A number of those in the police force, the riot police and the police reserves and their family members have written to newspapers to denounce the British atrocities. They said they were ashamed to be found among the lackeys of the imperialists and traitors.
It is hoped that all those patriotic Chinese in the police force, the riot police and the police reserves will make up their mind at this critical moment to turn their gun at the Hongkong British when condition is favour- able and throw them off their guard. ·

To this, our patriotic workers have dealt a forceful counter blow. They said in great indignation: The big
character posters are not to be torn down! The displays are not to be removed! If you tear down the big-character posters, we will put up even more.'
Cheng Wu Pao(June 5, 1967):
The editorial entitled 'Resolutely Repel the Provocations by the British Imperialists' which appeared in the People's Daily on June 3, is a very important article that must have vio- lently shaken the Hongkong British autho- rities and their running dogs. It not only served as a bugle call for forward march for the Chinese compatriots in Hongkong and kowloon, but also instructed them in detail anti-persecution. in the way to carry on the great struggle of

The Afternoon News (June 5, 1967):
There have been some traitorous news-
papers which advocated the close-down of the patriotic Chinese newspapers in Hongkong.
This was really not a new idea. We have heard of such threats before. There have been reports that Trench and his henchmen had met twice to consider this measure, but had felt hard to take action, and had not dared to take action.
Up to the present, our anti-persecution struggle headquarters still insists on 'struggle by reasoning and newspapers are weapons for such struggle. However, if our patriotic newspapers are to be closed, does that mean that you want to force us to wage the strug- gle with physical force?
