Tyrer.
I have now received the application to retire in writing. Tyrer leaves for London today (Friday) by flight BA 921.
2. Announcement proposed in my telegram No.1030 will be amended so that second sentence ends "organisation of the police force in present circumstances".
30 There would be great difficulties in holding up announcement here. His departure cannot be concealed and purpose of making journey appear routine duty one would be defeated if no advance announcement were made or comment were refused. Accordingly I propose to issue at 1700 hours local. . time 15 minutes before departure of flight. I do not think there is much risk if he is faced with press on arrival but you may think it helpful if an information officer could meet him.
