I agree entirely that Tyrer must go, and that he should be permitted to retire with as much dignity as is reasonably possible, in recognition of his undoubted services in the past.
2. It would seem difficult to justify Tyrer's being retained at home without disclosing purpose for which he has been retained. If this and other similar presentational difficulties can be overcome (and provided Gass has no objection) I would not object to Tyrer being employed in Commonwealth Office on work you propose.
