the exact date or month, at about 0900 hours, or soon afterwards,
I drove my private car HK 2684 to Happy Valley to perform my duties
of checking surveillance agents there. I drove my car to Sing Wo
Road where I could not find a parking space. I turned to a side
street on my right, I have forgotten which street, parked my car
there, and performed my duties on foot. I forget which target
address I went to because at that time there were many addresses
under surveillance in that area. I met a party of surveillance
agents and afterwards used a telephone in a shop to inform Head-
quarters in College Road. I understand that my telephone message
would have been recorded at College Road and that I had to submit
a written report the following day. After I had done my duty I
walked back to my car. While I was walking along the side street, before reaching my car, Mr. X caught up with me from behind.
Mr. X saw me he said 'Good morning' and I returned his greeting.
Mr. X was the only one present at the scene. Mr. X did not stop
and he had no conversation with me apart from the greeting. He
walked before me and left. I drove my car away, but I do not now
remember where my next destination was.

On 16th November, 1961 Mr. Gordon showed me 4 photographs
and I stated I did not know the persons involved. The photographs
were produced one by one and Mr. Gordon asked me whether I knew
each one by name. At last Mr. Gordon asked me if I knew a man Mr.
X without producing his photograph. After some thought I asked him
whether the Mr. X referred to by him was a man who had been a member
of Y Department of the Hong Kong Government. Mr. Gordon did not give me a reply. Ì told him I knew only one Mr. X who was formerly connected
with the Y Department of the Hong Kong Government. At that stage
Mr. Gordon produced the photograph of Mr. X. I examined the photo-
graph for a few seconds and hesitatingly replied that the photograph
was probably the likeness of Mr. X. Mr. Gordon said that he could
recognize Mr. X from the photograph and asked me why it took me So long to identify Mr. X. I explained that although I knew of a Mr. X
I could not very well remember his likeness. I also said I knew
quite a number of members of the Y Department such as LEUNG Chi,
WONG Yiu and Mr. X bus that they were not well known to me. Mr •
Gordon asked me when did I last meet Mr. X. I said I met him before
the war and not after. In any case I have never had conversation
with Mr. X although he was well known as a member of the Y Department.
I was interviewed again by Mr. Gordon on 2nd December, 1961.
I stated that I now remember that approximately six months before I
