One of the major efforts of the unit has been in the production on a large scale of cheap simple Chinese leaflets. again the content and purpose reflect the changing situation. them were either only in Chinese or, in a minority of cases, incluled Chinese and English in one version. The only exception, for obvious reasons, was a leaflet reproducing, photographically, letters of suppoLT from British M.P.'s. The most elaborate production was the book "GuarüLUM of the People" which imitated a communist book called "Who is Guilty of these Atrocities?" "Guardians ..." followed the same themcs, design and style but successfully showed how the communists had distorted truth. unit produced two "Dear Friend" letters which were reproductions of ham.--- written accounts in letter style of events in Hong Kong in June and Jul. designed to be sent overseas by Hong Kong residents, particularly in ti. New Territories, to their relatives and friends to off-set communist prope randa versions of the same events. A leaflet on the freedom: pepp in Hong Kong was produced and issued in conjunction with a newspaper campaign which the unit ran on the same theme, In the same way leefl outlining simply the progress of Hong Kong in many fields was associati with a newspaper campaign. Other leaflets, also in Chinese, dealt with resisting strike appeals, water restrictions, statements to show Govern determination to resist violence and subversion, and exposure of the cl of "Struggle Committees" in the New Territories.
