I am submitting to higher authority in the Commonwealth Office the draft of a letter which the Commonwealth Secretary, if he agrees, would send to your Secretary of State arguing the political case for the stationing in Hong Kong of an R.A.F. fighter contingent after 1970/71. Meanwhile I have just had a further letter on this subject from the Governor of Hong Kong, a copy of which 1 am sending on to you at once, as I expect Mr. Thomson will probably wish to refer to this letter if he writes to Mr. Healey.
