1. I enclose a copy of a report (1) by the Commander-in-Chief, Far East, on his visit to Hong Kong from 16th to 18th July 1967.

2.

In his report the Commander-in-Chief has set out a number of recommendations and you will wish to consider:

a.

Instructing the Defence Planning Staff to prepare a Contingency Plan to send a small brigade headquarters, two battalions and appropriate support by air from the United Kingdom.

TO •

Inviting the Chief Adviser Personnel and Logistics in conjunction with the Commonwealth Office to consider the problem of service families.

C. Agreeing to the proposal that the Chief Staff Officer to the Commander British Forces Hong Kong should be a Colonel (Army or Royal Marine), and that the rank of the Station Commander RAF Kai Tak should be up-graded to Group Captain.
