Many thanks for your letter of 4 September, which George Thomas passed to me, suggesting that planning to reduce the Hong Kong garrison by the equivalent of one major unit should cease for the time being.
I agree entirely with your views and am very glad that the
Commander-in-Chief Far East has been instructed accordingly.
