Although it is not strictly relevant to the
matters covered in the Defence Secretary's paper, it would per.. ps -be-as well-if the Secretary of State was aware that in his
discussions with the Commander in Chief the Defence Secretary is recorded as saying that he viewed "charitably" a proposal to rest re to the Hong Kong garrison the major unit which is to be
withdrawn, if our forces in Singapore/Malaysia were reduced by half by 1970/71 (see paragraphs 1(b) and 2(b) of CINCFE 1589/9025/50-
(parages sidilmed) 41/16).
