Sir D. Hopson originally proposed that this should be done PLAG G by 6 August (Peking telegram No, 718), but later recommended that we
should wait to see whether he was allowed to leave on the date
requested. Thereafter we can consider reactivating the diplomatic offensive in the light of any further indications of Chinese inten- tions after formal nctification of deregistration on 13 August.
