I think this is the essence of the situation rather than any diliberate serious military threat by China against Hong Kong.

This has never been our judgement of the position at all the nitch of the
problem is very different from that though its still a considerable problem
for us.
If they were to take this action are we in a position to defend Hond Kong
from a military point of view.
