COLONIAL SECRETARIAT, HONG KONG.

5th August, 1967.

We spoke briefly, when I was in London in the middle of June, about the long outstanding question of our Export Credit Insurance Corporation's access to information from British posts abroad and I promised to let you know what minimum elements in what we had previously requested we regard as vital.

(b)

All that we ask is :

copies of the reports on import and export control regulations which we understand are already sent to the Export Credits Guarantee Department in London as a matter of routine;

copies of the periodical Economic Reports which overseas posts prepare and send to departments in London.

It seems to us that the work involved in making an additional copy and sending it to us would not be very onerous, although, of course, there would be some additional work.

3.

Our Corporation has so far been both prudent and fortunate but could at any time be caught on a large scale through no fault of their own but only through lack of information not available to them but available in London.

We should be very grateful therefore for anything you can do for us in this matter.

W.S. Carter, Esq.,C.V.O., Commonwealth Office, London, S.W.1.
