Opening remarks
Sir A. Snelling thanked those members of the Hong Kong
Delegation who had flown from the Far East to take part in the
discussions,
2. He recalled that, during the Commonwealth Secretary's
visit to Hong Kong in March, there had been preliminary talks
about the effect on Hong Kong of British entry into the E.E.C.
The objective of the present consultations was to discuss ways
and means of negotiating with the Community safeguards for
Hong Kong's essential interests. The British Government had
