arrangements for the independent Associates in the economic field,

but the dependent Associates do not participate in the

institutions of the Association. At the time when the Yaoundé

Convention was signed, the EEC Council declared their readiness

to negotiate agreements with other countries in Africa who so

requested and whose economic structure and production were similar

to those of the existing Associates. Such agreements could take

the following forms:

(a) Accession to the Yaoundé Convention

1827. Since 1963 Nigeria has concluded a limited association

agreement with the Community, based on the trade provisions of the

Yaoundé Convention alone and not extending to aid or institutional

arrangements; and Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, acting together,

are negotiating for a similar agreement.

19.25.

In general terms, our objectives should be:

(1)

that those of our dependent territories, for whom

association under Part IV of the Rome Treaty was

agreed in the last negotiations to be appropriate,

should again be eligible for Association on terms no

less favourable than the existing dependent
