ARRANGEMENT REGARDING INTERNATIONAL TRADE

IN COTTON TEXTILES

Action under Article 3

The following communication has been transmitted to the Director- General by the three Benelux countries.

I have the honour to inform you that in view of the disturbance of the market as a result of imports into the Benelux countries of substantially- increased quantities of certain cotton textiles from Hong Kong, consultations based on Article 3 of the Long-Term Arrangement Regarding International Trade in Cotton Textiles took place from 5-14 July 1967 between the Benelux countries and Hong Kong.

The articles discussed in the course of the consultations were the following:

Woven nightwear for men and women (Benelux tariff positions 61.03.70 and 61.04.50);

Handkerchiefs (61.05.90);

Bed linen (62.02.03);

Household linen (62.02.20).

Consultations were also held concerning the importation into the Benelux countries of cotton woven shirts (Benelux tariff position 61.03.10). The consultations took place in a most friendly atmosphere and enabled solutions to be found for the various outstanding difficulties.

My Government would be grateful if you would bring the above information to the notice of the countries signatories of the Long-Term Arrangement Regarding International Trade in Cotton Textiles.
