A persistent crowd of demonstrators who had been picketing Lowu Railway Station since yesterday after- noon were driven back across bridge into Chinese territory shortly after five o'clock this morning.
Crowd were using an incident alleged to have occurred at Nam Hang yesterday morning in which they claim group of farmers was subjected to tear gas while tilling their fields as pretext for interfering with normal running and security of station premises.

Despite repeated assurances that alleged incident would receive a full investigation, demonstrators force in an attempt to gain entry into Lowu Police Post and tried to prevent officials in area from carrying out their duties.
When they failed to heed warnings to leave premises Police dispersed them with use of tear gas.
Crowd which had numbered about eighty (repeat eighty) ran back across bridge but returned few minutes later and stoned offices of Immigration Department.
They also tore down a Union Jack hoisted at Hong Kong end of bridge.
They were repulsed with further use of tear gas and situation at Lowu is now reported to be quiet.
