The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China presents its compliments to the Office of the British Charge d'Affaires and, with reference to the Office's notes of November 1 and 16, 1966, re- plies as follows:
Q
The
According to reports from the departments con- cerned, "the oyster beds in Deep Bay" referred to in the note of November 16 are the Shih Sha Oyster Beds under the production management of the Pu Cheng and Sha Ching Communes of Pao-an County, and poachers from Hongkong were recently found to be sabotaging produc- tion there in an attempt to seize the oyster beds. Communes had given repeated warnings which, however, were of no avail. It is only right for the commung were„of members in righteous indignation to bring the poachers back for education. In his conversation with Deputy Director Hauch Kung-tso on October 31, Counsellor Cradock described the proper action taken by the con-- mune members of Pao-an County for the protection of their oyster beds as "abduction." The Ministry of
Foreign Affairs considers such allegation utterly
slanderous and groundless.
