My telegram No. 985.
Hong Kong Evening News has now published an
extra edition in which quoting its own sources it
claims that "Ghurkha troops proceeding to the rescue of police in Sha Tau Kok village had been surrounded by militia and had been unable to extricate themselves because of the militia". It adds that the P.L.A. had not yet joined in the fighting.
2.
Needless to say the reference to Ghurkhas
has no relation to reality.
