My telegram No.133.

Macao.

Agreements described in my paragraph 1 were duly signed yesterday amid well-ordered demonstrations of enthusiasm controlled by Chinese Left Wing supporters. Text has not yet been released. Hong Kong Left Wing papers today acclaim signature as victory for the thoughts of Mao Tse-Tung.

20 The boycott ceased at once, but six gunboats made another demonstration in Portuguese waters after the signature.

Well-placed sources in Macao say that the present Governor will relinquish his post within the next fortnight.

(Passed to D.S.A.0. for repetition to Lisbon and

Washington)
