Addressed to Commonwealth Office telegram No. 757 of 13 June Repeated for information to Peking.
Peking telegram No. 396 [to Hong Kong: telegram No. 553 to Foreign Office]:
2.
Li Choh Chih.
Li went back to China again on 18 May and has not returned.
Our contact reports that he saw Li three times in the week he was here. He was told that Li had never got to Peking but had spent the whole period in Canton; and that two senior cadres of the Prime Minister's Office had come down to Canton and there discussed the Hong Kong problem with him.
3. Li said initially that he expected to have a message to pass to our contact for us in about a week or ten days. But later he let it be known that he was going to Peking and that his trip was in connection with the message he had promised.
4. We will, of course, do our best to make contact if and when he returns.
Commonwealth Office pass routine to Peking No. 287.
