When I was in Hong Kong last month I made a suggestion,
to be passed on to the Communists there through my usual
channel of communication that Anthony Grey, the Reuter
correspondent in custody there, should be permitted to write freely to his mother. (Reuters told me that she
had received a letter at Christmas only).
A reply has come back which has been passed on to me
by post to the effect that although no reply had been
received on this subject from Peking by Fei Yi-ming,
publisher of the Hong Kong Communist daily Ta Kung Pao
to whom the message was sent, he thought that if a
request to this effect were to be made by H.M. Charge
d'Affaires in Peking it would be granted.
