Addressed to Foreign Office telegram No. 170 of
29 July. Repeated for information to Peking and Hong Kong and Saving to Washington and New Delhi.
70) Your telegram No. 376 to Berne of 24 July: British
Mission in Peking.
781)2.
Before receiving your telegram No. 381 to Berne I had spoken as instructed to both the Secretary and the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
3. The Minister expressed sympathy and complete agreement and promised that the Foreign Secretary would have the Chinese Charge d' Affaires on the mat without delay. He pointed out that the Charge d' Affaires was a junior Secretary, but would presumably communicate what he was told.
Foreign Office pass to Peking and Hong Kong and Saving to Washington and New Delhi.
Mr. Kellas
Repeated as requested.
