Your telegram No. 383 to Berne: British Mission in
Peking.
I called on the Director of the Department concerned at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 30 July and spoke as instructed. He did not know what decision had been taken on the basis of Sir J. Chadwick's representations, but promised to pass on my message at once. He now tells
me that Council of Ministers decided to do as we had asked but action had not been taken before I called.
They will not now take action, but will be interested to know in due course what happened.
Please repeat as required.
