PRIORITY PEKING TO FOREIGN OFFICE

PEKING TELEGRAM No. M 31 TO STOCKHOLM 8 JULY, 1968.

DENTIAL

Addressed to Stockholm telegram number M 31 of 8 July. Repeated for information to Foreign Office.

Your telegram number 395: Exit Visas.

-1632,

For your information any kind of collective démarche in Peking by this spineless corps is out of the question. I discussed proposed exercise very fully with Swedish Ambassador here who is senior Western Ambassador. He was very much in favour and thought it could best be done in the various capitals concerned. I do not think it really matters who at the Chine se Embassy receives the appellation, as it will in any case be transmitted to Peking. What matters more is the level from which it is delivered.

2. Swedish Ambassador Petri returns to Stockholm on leave this week and will, I am sure, recommend his Government to cooperate.

Foreign Office pass Stockholm Priority.

Sir. D. Hopson.
