Addressed to Foreign Office telegram No. 1021 of 7 August, Repeated for information to Djakarta, Washington, Hong Kong, POLAD Singapore.
People's Daily of 6 August reports Chinese protest, lodged with Indonesian Chargé ad interim in Peking on 5 August, about attack on Chinese Embassy in Djakarta the same day by "more than a thousand troops, police and hooligans". The attackers are
said to have injured four Embassy personnel and to have set fire to Embassy buildings.

Chinese Foreign Ministry informed Indonesian Chargé at the same time that Indonesian diplomatic staff are confined to their Embassy here until Indonesian Government stops its "Fascist anti-Chinese atrocities" and guarantees safety of Chinese diplomats.
3. Large-scale demonstrations began outside Indonesian Embassy on 5 August and are continuing.
