Addressed to Foreign Office telegram No. 1029 of 7 August. Repeated for information to Djakarta, Hong Kong, POLAD Singapore and Washington,

My telegram No. 1021.
People's Daily of 7 August reports a Chinese protest Note handed to Indonesian Charge d'Affaires in Peking on 6 August about the attack on the Chinese Embassy in Djakarta on 5 August.
2.
The terms of the Note are similar to the protest reported in my telegram under reference. It also demands from the Indonesian Government an apology, punishment of the offenders, compensation for damage, guarantee of safety of Chinese diplomats and stop to anti-Chinese atrocities. The Note concludes "The Chinese Government declare that until they receive from the Indonesian Government satisfactory replies to the above demands, they reserve the right to take further steps".
3.
Same paper also carries commentator article on Indonesia, the main point of which is that the Indonesian Government cannot escape responsibility for the attack on the Chinese Embassy, and is serving interests of American imperialism and Soviet revisionism because the Indonesio economy is on the point of collapse.
