THE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH IN ENGLAND AND WALES
LIST OF RESOLUTIONS PASSED BY THE ASSEMBLY 1967
A DECLARATION OF FAITH
(i) That "A Declaration of Faith", now revised in the light of comments from our own and other Churches, be accepted together with "A Short Affirmation of Faith" as a representative statement, and be commended to the churches.
(ii) That the members of Commission II be most warmly thanked for their arduous labours and for the skill with which their work has been done, and that Commission II be now duly discharged.
A PROPOSED BASIS FOR UNION(CONGREGATIONAL/PRESBYTERIAN)
(i) That the Congregational Church in England and Wales receives the document entitled "A Proposed Basis for Union" and commends it to its member churches and to the County Unions in which they are associated, for study and initial comment by 31st December 1967 so that any proposed revisions may be submitted by the Joint Committee to the Assembly of 1968. (Comments are to be addressed to the Secretary of the Joint Committee at 205 Memorial Hall, Farringdon Street, London, E.C.4).
(ii) The Assembly, taking note of the cordial informal contacts already made by the Central Council of the Churches of Christ in Great Britain and Ireland with representatives of the Joint Committee for Conversations between the Congregational Church in England and Wales and the Presbyterian Church of England, resolves, subject to the concurrence of the Presbyterian Church, to invite the Central Council of the Churches of Christ to appoint three observers to attend meetings of the Joint Committee and receive all relevant documents. The Assembly, however, further expresses its mind that the widening of the scope of these Conversations, while warmly welcomed, should not lead to any delay in the hoped- for consummation of union between Congregationalists and Presbyterians.
COVENANT
COMMITMENT BEFORE GOD
That the Congregational Church in England and Wales receives with gratitude the document 'Covenant Commitment Before God (Covenanting for Union)', accepts its exposition of the meaning and implications of such a covenant, and pledges itself to covenant with such other Churches as are so minded; and recommneds that the document be studied in our churches during the coming year.
