"Sir Gerald Nabarro (South Worcestershire):

To ask

the Prime Minister, what conversations he has had with President Johnson concerning the use of the British naval base at Hong Kong by United States navy warships and with what result; how many United States warships have used the British naval base at Hong Kong during 1966; and whether he will publish his reply to representations from Red China on these matters."

Draft reply under consideration is as follows:

"I have had no such conversations. The United States

navy ships visiting Hong Kong do not use the British naval base,

The answer to the last part of the question is no."

Although proposed reply avoids giving the number of United States ships which visited Hong Kong in 1966 it is required for Ministers' information.
