Visits by American Servicemen to liong Kong

The total number of American servicemen

from Vietnam at present allowed to visit

Hong Kong on rest and recreation at any one

time is 750. The Americans have requested

that this number should be increased immediately

to 830 and thereafter be raised as soon as

possible, preferably by 1 April, to a final

target of 996. The Governor of Hong Kong

has recommended that we should agree to the

substance of the American request but that the

higher figure of 996 men should only be

reached after 1 May and providing no political

difficulties arise in the intervening period.
