PRESS NOTICE (Embargoed for Publication at 10.00 hours B.S.T.,
20 March, 1968)
THE GOVERNOR OF HONG KONG COMING TO LONDON
The Governor of Hong Kong, Sir David Trench, will be coming, to London for consultations with the Commonwealth Office on 24 April. He will be away about three weeks and is expected to return to Hong Kong on or about 15 May; during which period he will also be taking some 10 days leave to visit his family in England.
The Governor's visit is being made at the Commonwealth Office's suggestion, and is in furtherance of a general policy of direct consultations either in Hong Kong or in London every two months or so, by exchanges of visiting officials. It will be recalled that following Lord Shepherd's visit in October last year, Sir Arthur Galsworthy visited the Colony in December and Mr. Cowperthwaite visited London in January this year.
The purpose of these exchanges is primarily to bring both sides up-to-date with recent events and to exchange views; and this will be the main purpose of the Governor's visit.
Mr. Cowperthwaite will accompany the Governor during a part of these consultations, but the dates of his visit to London have not yet been finally decided.
