Disordera in Hong Kong bogan with a minor labour dispute last May at a plastic flowers factory. This was inflated for political reagong by the Communists under the influence of the "Cultural Revolution" on the mainland, and led to riots and
erreste. Those led to the presentation by the Chiness of the
Five Demands, which are as follows:
"Inmediately accept all the just demands put foward
by Chinese workers and residents in Hong Kong;
Immediately stop all Fascist measures;
Immediately act free all the arrested prisoners,
including workers, journalists and cameramen;
Punish the culprits responsible for these sanguinary
atrocities, offer apologice to the victims and com-
pensate for all their losses; and
Guarantee against the occurrence of similar incidents."
The demands were incorporated in a statement by the Chinese
Government handed to the Chargé d'Affaires in Feking on 15 May
and then published. No formal reply has been made to the demands. (but see paragraph 11 below). The campaign against the Hong
