Addressed to Foreign Office telnp. 573 of 18 June. Repeated for information to Hong Kong, Washington, and POLAD Singapore. Louple's daily of 18 June carries on page three a slightly fuller version of NCNA report No. 061610 about the disturbances at the Cheungshawan and Hunghum playgrounds.
2* Article says that the Hong kong authorities on several successive evenings recently sent large numbers of armed police to "carry out provocations and to wound and arrest many compatriots" who were studying and propagating Mao's thought. On the evening of 11 June police used tear gas, wooden bullets and poisonous liquid against people in the playgrounds and "killed repeat killed many people on the spot and after three compatriots had been wounded they were arrested for no reason. The article goes on to describe incidents on 13 and 14 June,
3. The article says that the Hong Kong authorities have "resorted to various schemes and even brute force to obstruct and sabotage" the return to work by strikers. It goes on to "statements issued on 14 June by the Struggle Committee and on 15 June by the workers Struggle Committe.

44 The article ends by quoting the statement of the Workers Struggle Committee which said that "the Hong Kong British authorities say that they want to bring about a relaxation in the Hong Kong situation and to improve Sino-British relations but in fact they have not ceased their frantic suppression of patriotic workers and compariots" (This passage does not appear in the NCNA version). "If you continue to go it alone and carry on your reactionary policy and create tension and worsen the situation in Hong Kong you will be held responsible for all the serious consequences arising therefrom".
