Following communal riots causing five deaths, state of emergency declared in Port Louis 21st January

Hong Kong.
Generally quiet week. No true and only five false and hoax bombs. One incident of stone throwing at Sha Tau Kok. On 19th January in Western district Hong Kong Island Police forced to open fire with tear gas and baton shells to disperse crowd of some 600 which gathered when a lorry driver was arrested after an altercation outside a Police Station.

Deployments.
Army. Post Crown (East Thailand), 11 Indep Fd Sqn have been relieved by 54 Sp Sqn RE and are now at Terendak.

Submarine exercise to assess relative chances of patrol submarines in coordinated and independant transits against a nuclear submarine and vice versa.
27th January to 4th February in Gan Area.
Major Fleet Exercise including operational evaluation of the nuclear submarine in the close support role.
