Apart from isolated acts of arson and looting in unoccupied houses the general situation is slowly returning to normal. The death roll reached 21 yesterday with the discovery of the body of a Creole woman in Port Louis.

b. Police/military patrols continue cordon and search

operations in hard core areas of Port Louis.

A start has been made with the organised evacuation to other accommodation of displaced persons from refugee centres.

The situation remains calm but local authorities are apprehensive of a deterioration when the Royal Navy depart.

RFA TIDEREACH arrives back at Rodrigues from Mauritius this afternoon with a small police reinforcement party of 1 Sgt and 6 Constables.

Royal Naval patrols will be concentrated at Mathurin today. Intention is to embark all Naval personnel tomorrow and then for HMS CAMBRIAN to withdraw out of sight to seaward to test reactions.
