Macao Radio.
Since the evening of 24 June Radio Vila Verde in Macao has been broadcasting violent propaganda against the Hong Kong Government at regular intervals.
20
At. 3.30 on 25 June it broadcast an item entitled "Farewell to the God of Plague, Trench", Sir David was referred to in this as the "arch criminal
who directed scoundrels
of China, lackeys, Chinese traitors, and running dogs to do all sorts of things hostile to the Chinese people". The same programme broadcast the text of two letters allegedly from Hong Kong policemen "who were prepared to point their guns at the British Authorities in Hong Kong", "We are resolved to wait for the opportunity when we will turn the rifles and rout the white-skin pigs"
•
3. At 2030 hours on 25 June in a Cantonese transmission the radio put out "Ten charges against David Trench", These included accusations that Hong Kong had been made a "kingdom of police and detectives", that the Government was "suppressing and arresting patriotic Chinese ..... giving slavish education, exploiting the workers ... and training anti-riot squads instead of educating the young".
40
At the end of this item a song was broadcast praising the Kowloon motor bus workers for their bravery in fighting the police during the recent riots; and this was followed by another song condemning "David Trench and the Hong Kong British imperialists".
50 The radio station is privately owned by a syndicate in which the leading part is now being taken by Ho Yin, the well- known Macao Communist. Certain non-Communist partners in the enterprise (including R.H. Lobo, H.K. Urban Councillor) told us some time ago that they were under pressure to broadcast propaganda material but was determined to resist this as long as possible. They now have no effective control of the station.
