hen the Governor, Sir David Trench, Sow the Commonwealth Secretary on Wednesday afternoon, 28 June, he again sugested that some attempt should be made to persuade frindly Governments to
express criticism of the Chinese activities over Hong Kong and to express their support for Hong Kong.
The particular suggestion was made thut as President Ayub Khun of Pakistan appears to have friendly relations with the Chinese Government, he should be
approached to see if he could bring any influence to bear on the Peking Government to take a more reasonable attitude towards Hong Kong.
It was realised that there were considera- ble difficulties involved in this kind of approach, but I was instructed to pursue the matter. I should be grateful for your views on this. As Pakistan has been specifically mentioned, 1 am sencing a copy
