UNLASSIFIED
Addressed to Foreign Office telegram No.405 of 29 June, Repeated for information to Hong Kong, Peking and Saigon.

Following is text of a VNA announcement dated 27 June quoting Hanoi Peoples Daily of same date, attacking British authorities in Hong Kong for " fresh repressive acts against Chinese workers and people there and expressing full support for Chinese Government's correct stand on issue. Recalling new barbarous acts of repression against Chinese workers and their organisation in Hong Kong on June 8, 9 and 23, paper said acts have further laid bare odious colonialist nature of British authorities deliberately ignoring legitimate demands of Chinese people there and sticking to their dirty interests by force of arms. On other hand British Government have taken no measure to stop repression, instead have ordered British authorities in Hong Kong to take more reckless action and commit heavier crimes against Chinese people. Odious and sinister acts of British authorities only deepen hatred of Chinese people in Hong Kong for them and heighten their determination to struggle against them, hailing ever more resolute struggle of Chinese workers and people in Hong Kong against British imperialists, particularly general strike staged 24 June by 50,000 Chinese workers in Hong Kong.
The paper said that strike shows strength of Chinese workers and people in Hong Kong who have support of 700 million compatriots throughout the country.
Paper voiced Vietnamese peoples support for correct stand of Chinese Government as expounded in May 5 1967 statement of Chinese Foreign Ministry, and stern warning served to British Imperialists by Premier Chou en Lai on 24 June, 1967, and concluded "We firmly support correct stand of Chinese Government and people and demand that British Government stop forthwith persecution of Chinese workers and people in Hong Kong. We sternly condemn bloody crimes, perfidious and obstinate attitude of British authorities in Hong Kong. The Vietnamese people completely side with Chinese workers and people in Hong Kong who are valiantly struggling for their legitimate interests".
