OPY FOR REGISTRARY

Your telegram No.1 344.

Hong Kong Confrontation.

RECEIVED IN

ARCHIVES No. 63

HUJA 1/17.

Since supplies of pigs, cattle and vegetables from China have now been resumed and retail prices have almost reverted to normal, we consider that a public announcement as suggested in your paragraph 1 could be counter-productive in present circumstances.

20 We are examining alternative sources of supply urgently on the assumption that China may again withhold food imports for a similar or longer period. When these alternatives have been determined I will consult you on the suggestion in your second paragraph.

3. I expect to send you the paper referred to in my telegram No.851 by bag on Friday 7 July.
