At about 1230 hours today, Mr. John Edwards of Independent Television News, London, with his cameraman, Mr. Ernest Christie, a local freelance, stopped outside the Bank of China in Bank Street. They were taking pictures of the bank and Edwards was carrying a tape recorder. they had been filming for a few minutes, a group of about 10 men, some in the khaki messengers uniform of the bank and some in white shirts, emerged and made for the two. Realising that these people meant business, Christie turned and ran. He was tripped up, the camera fell from his grasp and on getting up he saw his assailants return into the bank property with the camera. Edwards meanwhile was approached by two of the men who tried but failed to get his tape recorder. Thereafter they too returned to the bank.

Although Christie says he was kicked he says that he suffered no injury worthy of medical treatment. Edwards was apparently unhurt.
30 A European, who says he went to the assistance of the men and was also assaulted, has said he will assist the police, believing that he could identify some of the assailants.
40 A camera, believed to be the stolen one, was apparently picked up in a damaged condition about 10-15 minutes later outside the bank, having allegedly been thrown out of the bank. The police are still trying to trace the person who picked it up.
