Grateful for most urgent information about what decision, if any, has been taken.

2.

News has not yet (11 a.m. 7 June) leaked in local press. Left-wing press has no mention of BULWARK . But there is a definite possibility that story will break here today. If it does we must know what to say. Our present plan is to reply to any questions on the following lines:-

"Enquiries are being made into a report/allegation that unarmed helicopters from H.M.S. BULWARK during the present routine exercise in the Port Shelter area of Hong Kong may have accidentally overflown Chinese air space."

(Passed Peking and Singapore by Hong Kong)

(Passed D.S.A.0. for Resident Clerk for advance

copies to P.S. to Commonwealth Secretary, Mr. de la Mare, Mr. Bolland, Mr. Wilson, Far East Dept. F.0.)
