both the Governor and his second-in-command

were to leave the Colony within a few

weeks of each other.

4.

Although Sir David Trench's

commission does not expire until next

Spring, there is already considerable

local pressure within the Colony for

с

his term of office to be extended. In Kas

aries

view of this I think we should announce

very soon whether or not we are going to

extend Sir David's term. For the

reasons given in this minute I very

much hope you will agree that we may

offer him an extension of one year,

subject to his continuing physical

fitness and a medical examination.

5.

I am sending a copy of this minute

to the Foreign Secretary.
