KIM Landing Rights at Hong Kong
If this question is raised the Secretary of State
intenis merely to tell Mr. Juns (off the record) that he was
having considerable trouble with his colleagues on the matter
and that he would unfortunately need more time to purge it.
Background
2. Mr. Tane has raised the question of landing rights at
Hong Kong for KLM with the Scoretary of State twice before,
as well as with Mr. Brown, and can be expected to revert to
it, if time allows. On both occasions the Secretary of State
said that the matter was still being studied. Mr. Brown had
previously told Mr. luns in February that we were examining
an idea which might enteil benefits for KIM and also for BAB,
though he did make it clear that he could promise nothing,
that it would take at least two months to consider and that
even then the answer might be negative. we had hoped this
time that the Board of Trade would agree to our divulging to
Mr. Luns without any commitment our intention to try and renove
frequencies from Air France and that if we succeeded we would
look at the possibilities in a global context in order to see
whether we could help the Dutch. The Board of Trade, however,
