Mr. Boyden may wish to know that the Queen
recently approved the extension for a period of
one year the term of office of the Governor,
Sir David Trench, whose five year term would ·
otherwise have expired in April, 1969.
There
were at the time many petitions from organisations
representing all sections of the community
asking for Sir David's term of office to be
extended.
Communist Confrontation.
The communists have eschewed violence in
Hong Kong since the end of 1967.
They have
switched their efforts to a long term non-violent
idealogical compaign in an attempt to win the
"hearts and minds" of the people of Hong Kong.
The Communist press has continued its diatribes
Constanety against the authorities and is consequently
seeking short-comings on the part of the
Government as targets for critisism.
