The Commission of Enquiry

On 3rd May the Governor appointed a Commission under the Chairmanship of the Chief Justice and consisting of 3 other members, whom two are Chincse, to enquire into and report on the causes and events leading to the disturbances. The Hong Kong press has generally welcomed the appointments made to the Committee and has stressed the interest of two of its members in youth problems, and their knowledge of the local goone. The Commission is still sitting.
Claims for Damage

A Kowloon Disturbances Claims Assessment Board has been set up to consider applications for ex-gratia payments to members of the public who suffered injury or damage resulting from the riots.
