His Excellency the Governor is most gratified to learn of the kind sentiments you have expressed and of the high regard you hold for his services.
I am to say that no decision has yet been made on the subject of His Excellency's retirement, but you may rest assured that when the time comes for him to leave Hong Kong, Her Majesty the Queen will undoubtedly have the interests and well-being of Hong Kong and its residents in mind in selecting the next Governor.
