I am replying to your Frivate and Confidential
letter of 28 June about the possibility of the
extension of Sir David Trench's tour of office as
Governor of Hong Kong.
You will not, I know, xpect me to comment on the
views expressed in your letter, for which I am grateful.
But I should perhaps make it clear that any decision to
of a Governor extend the door term of office/ould naturally be
subject to my being satisfied as regards his state of
health.
