I attach a bound volume of petitions
to Her Majesty The Queen from organisations
in Hong Kong. The petitions all ask that
the term of office of the Governor, Sir
David Trench, should be extended. I should
be grateful if these petitions could be laid
before Her Majesty.
The Secretary of State is at present
considering what advice to tender to Her Majes-
ty about the Governorship of Hong Kong. His
advice on these petitions is, therefore, that
the petitioners should be informed that their
views have been noted by Her Majesty and will
be taken into consideration when a decision
made is taker. In reaching a decision Her Majesty
will have the wishes, interests and well-
being of Hong Kong and its people in mind.
